Memory Fitness: What You Need To Know.

The older adult population has an increased interest in brain health and memory fitness. Memory lapses are not only embarrassing but they can also impact safety and result in decreased socialization. Health care professionals working with older adults can benefit greatly when there is an understanding of the basics of memory fitness including the reversible causes of memory loss, what changes occur with normal aging and the importance of listening and paying attention. With information about the changes a person can make in their lifestyle choices along with more effective memory strategies, a person may be able to maintain and even improve the ability to remember information. Current research supports challenging our brain as a part of a successful aging routine and providing older adults with information about basic brain health information in addition to offering a variety of memory fitness activities can become a vital part of keeping older minds stimulated through the decades of their lives.

LEARNING OPJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

Kathryn Kilpatrick, M.A. CCC/SLP specializes in speech and language pathology, rehabilitation of communication deficits as it relates to areas such as stroke, neurological deficits including TBI. Kathy has extensive experience in home health care, Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Also a national speaker and author of many products related to communication, person-centered care, activities to enhance quality of life of the older adult, reminiscence products and nationally and internationally used workbooks in rehabilitation since 1977. Geriatric communication consultant and a consultant for elder law attorneys to create care assessment reports. Kathy is a memory fitness therapist, coach and specialist with emphasis on memory fitness for successful aging and presenter for lifelong learning programs.

0.2 CEU’s (2 contact hours) Type One: This workshop will teach therapists specific skills for evaluation and treatment intervention with patients or clients.

CE Credit: A certificate of completion for 0.2 CEU (2 contact hours) will be awarded after completing the course & successfully earning 75% or better on quiz.
