This course is designed to familiarize the APRN with the basic requirements needed to conduct CMS mandated face-to-face encounters for hospice patients on Medicare.
This is a free course and No CEU Credit Issued, however, the APRN is required to complete 100% of the program before they can be placed on assignment with a HealthLinkRx hospice client.

You are required to listen to the complete audio on each slide before moving on to the next slide (i.e. you can’t jump ahead) but it should only take you an hour or so to complete the course (including a simple quiz and survey).

The audio was recorded from a live webinar so please ignore the speakers when they reference slide numbers as they do not always match.

At the completion of this Training the NP will be able to:

1. Define and describe Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS)

2. Describe appropriate protocol and guidelines to evaluate hospice patient.

3. Document proper form with specific information for hospice patient condition.

4. Discuss points to include in narrative

5. Demonstrate understanding and implementation of HealthLinkRx and Hospice
Consultants “timeline” of visit to completion and submission of evaluation and
narrative to hospice.


Pam Patton, APRN, graduated from nursing school with B.S. in 1976. She worked as head nurse of an Intensive Care Unit from 1976 to 1978 and has worked with a Family Medical Center since 1978 in Family Practice, Geriatrics, Psychiatry, and Hospice. Pam has been certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1985 and has been co-medical director with hospice since 1993.

Jenny Norwood, APRN, is a Family Nurse Practitioner-C with fourteen years experience. She has been in the nursing profession over thirty years with experience in medical/surgical, orthopedics and Department Head of Emergency Services. She continued her career in a busy Family Practice clinic as well as a nurse educator for a medical center. She currently is involved with oncologic surgery, geriatrics and hospice. Jennifer also provides educational opportunities monthly via an ABC television affiliate as a ongoing community service project.
