Program Description: This online program provides definitions of what Art Therapy is and how it differs from verbal therapy. The role of art-making in diagnosis and treatment is addressed through assessment by examining age-appropriate drawing skills and the symbolism of images that have personal meaning to our clients. In addition, this course examines art-making as personal growth and its therapeutic benefits. The course participants will learn specific indicators to look for in their clients art work, and how to identifying key images through the presentation of several case studies. Through these case studies the participants will identify how our clients express their mood through drawing and painting. Psychological and behavioral problems, such as regression and impairments, will be identified through the symbolism in our clients’ art work.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
•Discover a new method of communicating with clients
•Examine effective art therapy techniques
•Understand the therapeutic power that art provides
•Acquire skills for assessing the client’s stress level
•Complete various art therapy tasks and experience the healing process
•Obtain a basis of Art Therapy from its inception and history
• Provide current research as it relates to Art Therapy and its effectiveness with clients
•Take and pass at 70% exam to receive certificate

Pamela Hayes has been a Registered and Board Certified Art Therapist for 18 years. Mrs. Hayes is also a Licensed as a Marriage Family Therapist and has worked in many different settings and with diverse populations. Currently Mrs. Hayes owns and operates a private practice where she specializes in mood disorders, addictions, eating disorders, abuse and adoption as well as individual, couples and family counseling and has been teaching this subject for almost 10 years.

0.2 CEU’s (2 contact hours)
Type One: This workshop will teach introductory art therapy to health care professionals on specific skills for evaluation and treatment intervention with patients or clients.

Continuing Education Credit: A certificate of completion for 0.2 CEU’s (2 contact hours) will be awarded after completing of the course and successfully earning 75% or better on the quiz.
