Older adults represent the fastest growing sector of the U.S population. The purpose of this workshop is for health professionals to understand the functional effects of aging on the cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal and nervous system. Health professionals will then learn through demonstration, lecture, and video-guided lab time how to adapt clinical care to these age-related changes through evidence-based, effective, low-cost, yoga-based interventions that do not have any side effects. Therapists will also review research of the application of these yoga-based interventions through population specific research studies.

LEARNING OPJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
• Review the functional effects of aging on the cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal and nervous system.
• Review the functional and psychological effects of yoga therapy techniques on the cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal and nervous system.
• Practice and follow along with video as a guide, yoga therapy techniques to decrease the effects of aging on the cardiopulmonary and nervous system.

1. Yoga therapy for osteoporosis
2. Yoga therapy for increasing functional upright posture

ABOUT THE COURSE AUTHOR
Sabrina Castaneda, M.S., MOT, OTR, CYTh, E-RYT500, Certified Pilates Instructor, has been a rehabilitation specialist for nearly twenty years. Sabrina is is a licensed and registered occupational therapist, certified yoga therapist and teacher and certified Pilates instructor. Sabrina has graduate degrees in Human development & family studies with a minor in psychology, occupational therapy with a minor in psychology. She is currently completing her doctorate in occupational therapy. Post-graduate studies and minors include art therapy, writing, and neuroscience.

0.2 CEU’s (2 contact hours)
Type Two: This workshop will teach therapists specific skills for evaluation and treatment intervention with patients or clients.

Continuing Education Credit: A certificate of completion for 0.2 CEU’s (2 contact hours) will be awarded after completing of the course and successfully earning 70% or better on the quiz.
